Eldora "Dorie" Rose Chase

ELDORA ROSE “DORIE” CHASE...

was born to Rudolph “Sandy” and Anna (Haack) Stebritz on February 18, 1923 in Mason City, Iowa. When she was a small child, she moved with her family to Algona, Iowa where she was raised and received her education. On March 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to Phil Chase at St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Algona. Following their marriage, they lived in Algona until Phil was discharged from the service. They then moved to Artesian, South Dakota where they farmed. A year later they moved to Howard, South Dakota and Dorie was employed at Grady’s Drug Store in Howard for five years. In 1956, they moved to Fairmont, Minnesota. Then in 1959, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. Dorie worked at the Mayfair Restaurant in Pipestone for a couple of years until she began working for Bob Bunkers at his hardware store. In 1970, she became employed at the J.C. Penney Store in Pipestone and continued to work there until the store closed in 1985 and she retired. Phil preceded her in death on December 2, 1989. After his death, she continued to reside in Pipestone. In 2007, she moved into Ridgeview Estates. In April of 2014, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where she died on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Dorie was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone and the Crown of Rejoicing Prayer Group. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. For many years, she was active in the Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, and spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed having coffee with her friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Carol and her husband Kenneth Thompson of Galena Park, Texas; six grandchildren, Ardis and her husband Bob Baumgartner of Lynd, Minnesota, Richard and his wife Annette Zabel of Pierre, South Dakota, Jane Anne and her husband Chuck Sabinske of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, Joel and his wife Mary Zabel of Garvin, Minnesota, Brandon Richards of Galena Park, Texas, and Travis Thompson of Galena Park; great-grandchildren, Susan and her husband Dylan Dowling, Jeremy Zabel, Robert Zabel, and Misty Scott, all of Pierre, South Dakota, Joel Aaron Zabel of Garvin, Minnesota and Rheanne Sabinske of Walnut Grove, Minnesota; and great-great-grandchildren, Ella Dowling, Kendall Dowling and Tristi Clown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil; her daughter, Gloria Jane Zabel; her parents; one brother, Elmer; and two sisters, Theressa Kifer and Rose Mary Reffer.
