Eleanor Tvedt

ELEANOR TVEDT was born to John Henry and Anna Maria (Lakeman) Arndt on July 9, 1922 on the family farm south of Hendricks, Minnesota where she was raised and began attending the country school nearby. In 1931, she moved with her parents to a farm near Holland, Minnesota where she attended the school. Upon completion of her education, she helped on the family farm. On October 30, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harvey Clarence Tvedt in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1948, they moved to Holland; and in 1951, they moved to Westbrook, Minnesota. Then, in 1952, they moved to Wilmot, Minnesota; and 1953, they moved back to Pipestone where they lived until 1954 when they moved to Chandler, Minnesota. In 1955, they moved to Marshall, Minnesota; and in 1956, they returned to Pipestone. In 1958, they moved to Madison, South Dakota. While living in Madison, Eleanor began working at the nursing home there. In 1963, they moved to Chester, South Dakota where they lived until 1968 when they returned to Pipestone. At this time, Eleanor became employed by the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She continued to work there until her retirement in 1982. Harvey preceded her in death on May 6, 1984. After his death, she continued to reside in Pipestone. On March 5, 2005, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. In October, 2009, she transferred to the Golden Living Center Nursing Home in Franklin, Minnesota, and is where she died on Monday, October 3, 2011, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 25 days.

Eleanor was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She was baptized on November 15, 1930, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 20, 1945. She especially enjoyed spending time in her garden working on her flowers. She especially loved spending time taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Ardith Gum of Madison, South Dakota, Sheila Boulais of Pipestone, Minnesota, Larry Tvedt and his wife Diane of Chester, South Dakota, and Lynn Tvedt and his wife Lisa of Brandon, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; an infant granddaughter, Angie Hohn; an infant great-granddaughter, Maggie Prinsen; her grandson, Steven Boulais; three sisters, Clara Bebensee, Ella Melby, and Helen Quirk; and seven brothers, Elmer Arndt, Albert Arndt, George Arndt, Clarence Arndt, Bill Arndt, Eddy Arndt and Ralf Arndt.
