Elmer D. Moeller

February 4, 1934 — September 3, 2014

ELMER DALE MOELLER was born February 4, 1934 to Walter and Grace (Klosterbuer) Moeller on the family farm in Kanaranzi Township, Rock County, Minnesota. In 1937 Elmer’s family moved to a farm 1 miles West of Hardwick, Minnesota. He was baptized at the Ebenezer State Line Presbyterian Church near Rock Rapids, Iowa and later confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne, Minnesota. He attended 8 years of Rural School District No. 71 and went on to Luverne High School and graduated in 1952. Elmer enlisted in the United States Navy on September 10, 1953. He was stationed in San Diego, California and spent time in both Japan and Hong Kong. After four years of proudly serving our country Elmer was honorably discharged on September 30, 1957. He then attended and graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota class of 1960. He married Marcia Nelson on June 10, 1961 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The couple settled near Hardwick and worked the land while raising their two children. After farming for 38 years they retired and moved to Luverne in 1999. Once in town, Elmer was not ready to slow down much and began working part-time at Farmers Union in Luverne which he enjoyed until 2007. He became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne on August 1, 2013. He died there peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Elmer was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. He taught Sunday School, served as Deacon and head usher, served on the Board of Trustees and the Stewardship Committee. He belonged to the Arthur Moeller American Legion Post #478, the Luverne Lions Club, and served on the Board of the Farm Bureau and CFSA Committee. He was a 4-H Leader, softball coach, and enjoyed being a part of the Wood-Carvers Club in Luverne. Elmer was truly an outdoorsman who loved fishing, raising his pigs, going for long walks and traveling with Marcia. Watching sports and playing with his grandchildren brought him such joy.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Marcia; his two children, Greg and his wife Karen of Davenport, Iowa and Kristi Hultberg and her husband Mark of Elk River, Minnesota; grandchildren, Hannah and Isaac Hultberg and Ashley Baney; great-granddaughter, Baleigh Davis; and a brother, Roy Moeller and his wife Linda of Hardwick. Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Grace; and two brothers, Paul and Arthur Moeller.
