Ernie Wilhelm Bannick

August 8, 1925 — February 14, 2011

ERNEST “ERNIE” W. BANNICK was born August 8, 1925 to Ernest R. and Christine (Husen) Bannick on a farm in Lake Benton Township, near Lake Benton, Minnesota. He was baptized June 6, 1926 and confirmed December 12, 1948 at English Lutheran (later Grace Lutheran) Church in Lake Benton. He grew up on the farm and attended country school District 10. Ernie married Florine Resen on December 12, 1956 in Pipestone, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with four children and 54 years of life together. The couple farmed on the farm of Ernie’s birth. They purchased the farm in 1963, retired in 1985—though he continued to work on the farm—and sold the farm in 2005. They continued to live there until 2009 when they moved to Tyler, Minnesota. In 2008, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. On February 14, 2011 Ernie died peacefully at his home at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 6 days.

Ernie was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed most his passion of farming, taking care of his family, his animals, his Appaloosa horses, and his Guernsey cows. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, flowers, and especially time spent with his family.

Ernie is lovingly remembered by his wife, Florine; his children, Randy Bannick of Morris, MN, Larry Bannick of East Grand Forks, MN, and Verna Timmons of Kerkhoven, MN; six grandchildren, Rachel and Amy Bannick, Austin and Jenna Timmons, and Crystal and Andrew Marks; brother Emil (and Betty) Bannick of Walnut Grove, Minnesota; sister Alice Buhl of Tyler, MN; son-in-law Kenneth Marks of Detroit Lakes, MN; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Marks; his parents; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Memorial Service is planned for Spring at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton.
