Florence Elizabeth Hinz . . .

was born to Charles Lee and Lizzie (Hrabak) Hatfield on March 10, 1914 on an acreage close to Pipestone, Minnesota. She was baptized on March 12, 1914 at First Methodist Church in Pipestone. When she was five years old, she moved with her parents to a farm a few miles south of Pipestone where she was raised and attended school in District 25. She continued her education at Pipestone High School. After her high school graduation in 1933, she helped her parents at home. On November 14, 1934, she was united in marriage to Henry J. Hinz at the Methodist Church parsonage in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they lived on several farms in Pipestone County. In 1940, they moved to a house in Trosky, Minnesota; and then in 1942, they moved to a farm south of Trosky. They farmed there until 1950 when they moved to a farm northwest of Lake Benton, Minnesota. Henry preceded her in death in 1972. After his death, Florence had a farm sale and moved back to Trosky. In 1973, she began working in the kitchen at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Minnesota. Florence continued to work there until 1975. Then, in the fall of 1976, she moved into Pipestone where she became employed in the kitchen of the Good Samaritan Village. In the fall of 1977, she moved into the Jessco Apartments in Pipestone. She continued to work at the Good Samaritan Village until her retirement in 1983. After retiring, Florence babysat and did housework for people. In October of 2007, Florence moved to Worthington, Minnesota and in May 2010, she moved into the Ecumen Meadows of Worthington where she lived until her death on Wednesday October 8, 2014 at the age of 100 years, six months and 29 days.

Florence was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone where she was active with the United Methodist Women and the Church Circle. She was a member of the Pipestone Senior Center, and she enjoyed going there on Monday’s to quilt. She also enjoyed crocheting. She loved to play cards and belonged to several card clubs. Her favorite card games were pinochle and 500.

She is lovingly remembered by her three children, Marlene Miller of Worthington, Minnesota, Raymond Hinz and his special friend Marge Moll of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and Roy Hinz and his wife Judy of Dawson, Minnesota; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; an infant grandson, Troy Alan Hinz; her parents; three brothers, Charles Lee Hatfield, Jr., Roy Hatfield and Everett Hatfield; one sister, Maymie Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Joanne Hinz; and one son-in-law, Maynard Miller.
