Gehart Tvedt

Gehart Johannes Tvedt. . .

was born to Lars and Sarah (Tvedt) Tvedt on December 25, 1917 on the farm near Jasper, Minnesota where he was raised and attended country school. Upon completion of his education, he helped on the farm. On January 17, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served in Europe during World War II. After his discharge on October 30, 1945, he moved to Ruthton, Minnesota where his parents were farming. On April 20, 1946, he was united in marriage to Pearl Andersen in Pipestone, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Ruthton where Gehart worked as a butter maker at the creamery. In 1953, they moved to Pipestone. While living there, he worked at Pan-O-Gold Bakery for 15 years. He then worked as a security guard at the Eros Data Center and at Bayliner Marine until his retirement in 1980. Pearl preceded him in death on August 7, 1994. After her death, Gehart continued to reside in Pipestone. On June 20, 2012, he was admitted to the Pipestone County Medical Center. He died there the next day on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the age of 94 years, five months and 27 days of age.

Gehart was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton until he moved to Pipestone when he became a member of First Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of VFW 3814. His favorite pastime were to work on old cars and root for the Yankees.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Gordon Tvedt and wife, Betty Kampen Golden Valley, Minnesota; and countless nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; eight sisters, Hannah Vadnie, Viola Larson, Blanche Fredein, Karen Mattson, Sylvia Bostic, Violet Thomas, Hazel Luschen, and Nettie Green; and three brothers, Stanley, Howard, and Tommy Tvedt.
