Obituary for Gloria Pauline Monger

GLORIA PAULINE MONGER was born on July 5, 1928 to Roy and Agnes (Alstad) Meyer in Jasper, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. After two years of beauty school, she became a hairdresser for a short time, during this time she lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but took the train back and forth to Jasper. On August 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clarence Monger at Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper, the same church she was baptized and confirmed in. Following their marriage, they resided on a farm in Minnehaha County. Through the years, Gloria loved sewing, baking, and making lefse at home. A few years later, they purchased a farm in Minnehaha County and farmed there until their retirement in 1990. They continued to live on the farm until 1993 when they moved into Jasper. Clarence preceded her in death on December 14, 2007. After his death, Gloria continued to live in her home in Jasper until she moved to an apartment in April of 2016. She then moved into Sunrise Village in January of 2018. On September 5, 2018, she was admitted to the Pipestone County Hospice House in Pipestone, Minnesota where she died on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the age of 90 years, two months and 20 days.

Gloria was a member of Highland Lutheran Church in Sherman, South Dakota where she was active in the Ladies Aid and Circle. She was also a member of the Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of Norway. She liked playing pinochle and belonged to several card clubs. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and doilies, reading, bowling, fishing, RV’ing, and dancing. She especially loved spending time with her family.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Susan Hegge (special friend, Jim) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marsha (Jeff) Hamann of Lakeside, California, Debra Saxon of San Diego, California, Pamela (Jerry) Kuhlman of Hardwick, Minnesota, Deanne (Steve) Kneip of Omaha, Nebraska, and Joan (David) Hoffman of Sioux Falls; her son-in-law, Barney Hensley of Cookeville, Tennessee; 20 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
