Hall Shella

January 26, 1933 — March 6, 2016

HALL LAMBORN SHELLA was born on January 26, 1933 to Edmund and Imo (Lamborn) Shella in Jasper, Minnesota. He attended school in Jasper, graduating from Jasper High school in 1951. Hall was a four year letterman in four sports in high school and held the high jump record until the mid-1970s. He attended Mankato State University and played football and track for one year prior to being drafted into the United States Army. He was a military policeman at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was united in marriage to Lois Krapf on July 11, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper. After his military service, Hall returned to the family business, Home Light and Power, which his father, Edmund Shella had started in 1917. He and his brother, John, owned and operated the business until 1986 when they sold it to Northern States Power. After the sale, Hall began working as a marketing representative for NSP in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Hall’s second career as a marketing rep was one that he truly enjoyed. In February of 1997, Hall and Lois moved to Sioux Falls, and in 2000, he retired from Xcel Energy (which had bought Northern States Power). Hall passed away suddenly of an apparent heart attack on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, at the age of 83 years, one month, and eleven days.

Hall was a life-long member of Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served as the treasurer, an usher, and served communion there. Hall was also on the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. Hall was recently recognized as a 50 year member of the Oscar Iverson American Legion Post #133 in Jasper. In years past, Hall played community baseball and enjoyed bowling as well. Watching sports was a favorite pastime of Hall’s; whether it was live, using his season tickets to the Vikings, or watching the Twins or a golf match on TV. Golfing was one of Hall’s passions. He never missed “Holy Tuesday” and you could count on him being out on the course those afternoons.

Hall is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lois, of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Leigh Shella of Lawrence, Kansas, and Cindy (Jim Tranby) Shella-Tranby of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, and Joseph Gipp, and Haley (Chad) Kanengieter; one great granddaughter, Arabella Gipp; and a sister, Doris Rudell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Imo; daughter, Susan Shella; infant daughter, Jane Shella; brother, John Shella; sister, Helen Shella; sister-in-law, Lila Roegiers; and one brother–in-law, Milton Rudell.
