Harry Leroy Hansen

HARRY LEROY HANSEN was born on February 19, 1933 to Harry and Avis (Hart) Hansen in Pipestone, Minnesota where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Pipestone High School in 1951. After high school he began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On October 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Lois Winsel at the Presbyterian Church in Holland, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone. On March 25, 1953, Harry was drafted into the United States Army and received his training in Fort Lewis, Washington. After his honorable discharge he enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard. He worked in Mankato, MN, St. Louis Park, MN, Luverne, MN, Omaha, NE, and Bloomington, MN. When he retired in the late 80s, he and Lois moved back to Pipestone and started a property management company. On May 25, 2016, Harry entered the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota where he died on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the age of 83 years, three months, and 26 days.

Harry was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. He was also a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post 6 in Pipestone. He was a member of the Pipestone and Luverne Junior Chambers of Commerce. He was also a member of the Minnesota National Guard. He was very active in Pipestone City Government, serving as councilman from 1994 to 1997 and again from 2003 to 2014. He enjoyed maintaining properties and spending time at the cabin fishing. In his spare time, he liked playing cards, dancing, feeding and watching birds, growing apples, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Lois Hansen of Pipestone, Minnesota; four children, Randy (Julie) Hansen of Miltona, Minnesota, Rick (Pat) Hansen of Shakopee, Minnesota, Rhonda (Mike) Rybak of Rogers, Minnesota, and Renee (Marc) Schubbe of Chanhassen, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Thomas Hansen, Robert Hansen, Amanda Scheiber, Garrett Hansen, Sarah Schubbe and Ben Schubbe; five great-grandchildren, Ava Scheiber, Liam Hansen, Zoe Scheiber, Paige Hansen and Eli Scheiber; and one sister, LaVonne (Bruce) Peterson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Avis Hansen.
