Janice Swanson

December 23, 1937 — May 17, 2022

JANICE ELLEN SWANSON was born to Selmer and Sena (Peterson) Johnson on December 23, 1937 in Pipestone, Minnesota where she was raised and attended school. After her graduation from Pipestone High School in 1955, she became employed as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On June 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to Dale Swanson at Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they moved to Mankato, Minnesota where Jan continued to work for the telephone company. A year later they moved to New Ulm, Minnesota, and she again worked at the telephone company. When they moved back to Pipestone in 1959, she was again able to continue her employment with the phone company until the birth of their first child. While raising her four boys, Jan also worked at various businesses in Pipestone, including managing the Thoughtfulness Shop. In 1984, she decided to open her own daycare business. Jan loved being a caretaker to all her daycare children which included her own grandchildren. After 20 years, she retired from the daycare business. On November 14, 2009, Dale preceded her in death. After his death, she continued to live in Pipestone. On March 17, 2021, she moved to the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. A couple weeks ago, she was admitted to the Pipestone County Medical Center where she died on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the age of 84 years, four months and 24 days.

Janice was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she volunteered her time with the Sunday School, the Vacation Bible School, and the fundraising efforts for the church. Since she loved to write, she also volunteered to write letters to the missionaries and the minister of the week. She loved to socialize, and her friends meant a great deal to her. Most of all, she enjoyed retail therapy and had a great love for dogs. She really enjoyed writing and sending numerous cards to everyone with a special treat inside.

She is lovingly remembered by her four sons, Scott Swanson and his wife Jacque of Pipestone, Minnesota, Joel Swanson and his wife Tomi of Kasson, Minnesota, Kevin Swanson of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Kyle Swanson and his wife Sandy of Pipestone, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Colton, Michael, Jennifer, Christie, Brock, Sydney, and Brianna; three great-grandchildren, ElliAnna LaBrie, Huntley LaBrie and Huxley Swanson.
