Obituary for Jewel M. Noble

JEWEL MARIE NOBLE, age 67, died Thursday, July 21, 2022, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 1, 1955 in Pierre, SD, the daughter of Wayne and Gladys (Guthmiller) Trotter. Her brother, Gene, followed a couple years later. She was baptized and confirmed through Lutheran Memorial Church and graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, SD. A big part of Jewel’s childhood was spent fishing with her dad, grandpa and brother near the Oahe dam. Her teenage years led to riding her favorite horse, Buck, while checking cows on the prairie during the summer months with her extended Etzkorn family and ending the days by swimming in the Missouri River. Whenever she got to head West to visit, she always said she felt at home. Jewel went on to attend schooling at the Medical Institute of Minnesota in Minneapolis to attain her Veterinary Technician degree. Through her roommate, Susan (Noble) Eidem, she met the love of her life. On December 6, 1975, she married Randall Harvey Noble in Arco. Jewel quickly became rooted into the Noble household. Together, Randy and Jewel purchased a farm and began their own family. In her early years of marriage she was blessed with healthy babies and a community of amazing friends. She had fond memories of Erling’s Grocery, Arcola Days and time spent at Anderson Park getting water and swimming. Camping and caring for a gang of kids was often what Jewel spent her days doing. Jewel started working as a vet tech at the Ivanhoe Vet Clinic for many years. Animal husbandry came effortlessly to her at the clinic and at home on the farm raising hogs, cattle, sheep and horses. Her kids loved the menagerie of pets from snakes to iguanas to kittens to spiders, basically anything her kids could catch or wanted to love. Countless memories were made camping at Camden State Park fixing bike wipeouts and as the kids grew they started riding horses as a family. This led to many adventures out to Theodore Roosevelt National park camping with buffalo, rattlesnakes, and cactuses. She served on the Lake Stay Township board for over two decades and was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Arco. Jewel changed to the healthcare industry where she worked in Homecare and Hospice as well as at the nursing home for many years; she was a gifted caregiver and often put others’ needs ahead of her own. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her grandchildren where she taught them the gift of hard work, caring for animals and enjoying the outdoors. Jewel touched the hearts of the many, many people she met and everyone was left a better person because of her. Jewel truly had a servant's heart. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. In the words of Jewel, “We will get through this.”

Grateful to have spent their lives with Jewel are husband of 46 years, Randy; children, Christopher (Jillian) Noble of Arco, MN, Amber (Lloyd) Kongsjord of Talmoon, MN, and Jamie (Heather) Noble of Northfield, MN; grandchildren, Gretchen, Hunter, Jackson, Colby, Thor, Tait, Brett, Lillie and Eden; brother, Gene Meleen of Pierre, SD; cousin, Lisa (Tim) Goodwin of Savannah, GA; and a host of other family and friends.
