Obituary for Jimmie H. Lafrenz

JIMMIE HANS LAFRENZ was born on May 2, 1938 to Hans and Etta (Bruining) Lafrenz in Luverne, Minnesota. He was raised on a farm northeast of town near the Blue Mound ridge and attended school through the eighth grade. He then traveled into town and went to work welding for Carl Nash for a number of years before working for Luverne Bumper Company. He enlisted in the National Guard where he served his country and spent time stationed in California and Alaska. He later went to work for the Rock County Highway Department in Luverne. Throughout the years he was promoted to shop foreman and continued to work for the highway department until his retirement. Jimmie made his home east of Beaver Creek, Minnesota where he resided with his significant other, Janice Larson. On September 28, 2020, Jimmie died peacefully at his home at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Jimmie was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne. He later attended the Episcopal Church in Luverne until its closing. Jimmie enjoyed traveling, having coffee with friends and visiting with people. He loved to weld stools, knives, tools and many other unique creations without going off of any plans. He also enjoyed raising alpaca, at one time having as many as 25 of them on his land.

Jimmie is lovingly remembered by his significant other, Janice Larson; his sister, Wanda Kafka of Luverne; nieces, Cindy (Ken) Deters and Connie Kafka, all of Luverne; great nieces, Cassandra (Mike) Herding and Kiara (Ryan) Heikes; great-great nieces and nephews, Addisyn, Lillian and Henry Donth, Kaydence and Skyler Herding and Peter and Charles Heikes; and other family and friends, including Christi Wilson and her children, Robbie and Lexi Drake. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Maynard Lafrenz.
