John "Jack" Mathine

May 29, 1937 — March 10, 2022

JOHN "JACK" RAYMOND MATHINE was born on May 29, 1937 to John and Elizabeth (Tharnish) Mathine in Creighton, Nebraska. He attended school in Creighton at St. Ludger’s School and played on the baseball team. He graduated in 1955 and began working for a time at Richling’s Gas Station. In the fall of 1956 he enlisted in the United States Army along with his friend, Paul Wagner. He attended basic training in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and then served in France for a year in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). After being honorably discharged he went on to work for Leonard Meyer in Appleton, Minnesota. It was there where he met his future wife, JoAnn Kellen. The two were united in marriage on November 11, 1961 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with five daughters. Jack worked for Leonard for about a year on the Meyer farm. The couple then moved to Pipestone, Minnesota and Jack worked for Peavey Co. He worked there manufacturing feed and handled grain, fertilizer and chemicals. He worked as second man and salesman for the next 30 years until the elevator burned down. Then he went to work for Pipestone Grain and retired in 2012. Jack enjoyed his retirement and was blessed with family and friends to visit often. Jack entered hospice care at his home and passed away there peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at the age of 84.

Jack was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and helped as a communion minister as well. He also was a member of the Lions Club and helped distribute Meals on Wheels. Jack liked to watch the Vikings and Twins and travelling to watch his grandkids’ sporting events. He and JoAnn also enjoyed bowling together. All who spent an evening of visiting with Jack will remember him wrapping up the evening with the phrase “well, I suppose.”

Jack is lovingly remembered by his wife, JoAnn of Pipestone; five daughters, Diane (Michael) Wussow of Pipestone, Linda Blue of Hartford, South Dakota, Barbara (Kenneth) Cloyd of Temecula, California, Christine Mathine of Pipestone, and Deborah (Mike) Delvaux of Yankton, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren, Arielle, Chelsea, Seth, John, Jenni, Kayli, Misty, Heather, Rayann, Lexy, and Jennica; 10 great-grandchildren, Layton, Leah, Tobias, Dessiree, Precious, Kenny, Titus, Briar, Sage, and John; six siblings, Betty (Dave) Walton of Franklin, Nebraska, Norma (Don) Hart of Creighton, Nebraska, Bob (Darlene) Mathine of Champaign, Illinois, Jerry (Rita) Mathine of Glidden, Iowa, Judy Weibelhaus of Fort Scott, Kansas, and Pat Kuhlmen of Bloomfield, Nebraska; and many of loving friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Lou Havercamp and Roseline Fredrickson; and three brothers, Jim, Dale, and Leonard Mathine.

Blessed be his memory!
