Obituary for Johnny Muller

JOHNNY MULLER, 85, passed away from natural causes at the Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau, SD on January 9, 2023.

Born on July 25, 1937, to Johann “John” and Wilhelmina “Mimi” Muller at their home in Pipestone, MN, Johnny lived on the family farm until joining the Army in 1960. After serving with the Army until 1962, he joined the Army Reserves where he reached the rank of Sergeant by 1965. Johnny married Marlys Sue Greenhoff on October 8, 1966, and four children resulted from this union – Rex, Angie, Dallis, and Jennie. He wasn’t always the easiest to live with, but he would do anything to help his children succeed.

Johnny was an avid farmer who farmed full or part time his entire life. He raised cattle and hogs for over 40 years before “retiring” to help his friend Jerry Ellefson farm. He had many hobbies to keep himself busy as he taught himself how to do woodworking, carve Pipestone rock and even created beautiful iron sculptures that he displayed on his farm. His love of John Deere was well known, and he had a huge collection of toys and other memorabilia. He was especially proud to wear his John Deere clothes.

As he aged, his hobbies moved to reading, watching birds, and he wore the varnish off the dining room table from all the games of cards he played. Watching the birds, squirrels and traffic became favored pastimes after he entered the nursing home. He like to keep tabs on everything going on in his world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mimi Muller, siblings, Louie and Tony, son Rex and granddaughter, Ava. He is survived by his children, Angie (Jason) Newby, Dallis Muller, Jennie (Robert) Plucker and three granddaughters, Madison, Valerie, and Eleanor, along with his sister-in-law Darlene Muller, many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces.
