Joyce Fick

August 7, 1946 — August 1, 2020

JOYCE ELAINE FICK was born on August 7, 1946 in Luverne, Minnesota to Louis and Gertrude (Baar) Brouwer. She grew up in both Holland and Woodstock, Minnesota, the oldest of six children. Joyce graduated from Pipestone High School in 1965 and then went on to Jackson Technical School for nine months and completed the secretarial course. She then worked in Pipestone at Pawnee Corp. and Modular Homes and later went on to work in Luverne for Tom Quinn CPA for a short time. Joyce was married to Vernon Fick on March 24, 1972 and they moved onto the family farm outside of Hills, Minnesota. Joyce loved taking care of her family and had perfected the job of being a homemaker. Their home ran like clockwork while she and Vernon raised their three children. She enjoyed helping mow the lawn, taking care of her flowers, and bringing Vernon and Randy meals out to the field. She was always there to lend a helping hand whenever her family needed her. She treasured every card she received as well as numerous keepsakes, which kept her busy with her scrapbooking. On July 19th, Joyce suffered multiple cardiac arrests and she fought every step of the way until the Lord welcomed her home on August 1st, at the age of 73 years, 11 months, and 25 days.

Joyce and Vernon enjoyed taking road trips out west in their van. When their own children were young, they would load everyone up and head west to see the mountains each summer. Joyce always looked forward to the road trips she and Vernon took. They visited numerous state parks and monuments while taking in the beauty of the open road. Her grandkids were her greatest joy. She loved going to their sporting events and was waiting with a hug after every game. She truly was their biggest little fan. She also enjoyed playing cards with them, and she even learned to use FaceTime to talk to them. All six grandchildren each had their own special place in her heart, as well as one little grand-puppy. She will be remembered as a kind, caring, gentle, generous and loving wife, mom and grandma.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Vernon; their three children, Tammy (Ken) Bos, Hills, Randy (Kathy) Fick, Beaver Creek, Minnesota, and Susan Buller, New Hope, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Sidney, Kenadie, Amber and Annie; four brothers, Dean (Carol) Brouwer, Robert (Cherlyn) Brouwer, Neal (Peg) Brouwer, and Russ Brouwer; two sisters, Evelyn (Gary) Smith and Sylvia (Dale) Kontz; brothers-in-law, Robert (Avis) Fick and Egbert Ohling; sister-in-law, Sharon Fick; and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Gertrude Brouwer; parents-in-law, Louis and Frieda Fick; brother-in-law, Eldon Fick; and sister-in-law Darlene Ohling.
