Obituary for Joyce H. Perseke
JOYCE H. PERSEKE was born on August 21, 1926 in Appleton, Minnesota to John and Lena (Stordahl) Doese and was raised near Correll, Minnesota. She graduated from high school in Odessa, Minnesota. Joyce began working at Steinle’s Super Valu in Appleton where she met Edward Perseke. The two were united in marriage on September 25, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton went on to share 62 years of life together and work side by side for the entirety of their careers. In 1950, they relocated to Tracy, Minnesota and managed a grocery store before moving to Worthington to work in a Super Valu for a short time. The couple eventually bought a grocery store of their own in Tyler, Minnesota in 1956; they operated Eddie’s Super Valu for 31 years before their retirement. Eddie and Joyce enjoyed 24 winters in Phoenix, Arizona, but always returned to their home in Tyler for the summers. Eddie preceded Joyce in death on April 14, 2012. Joyce continued to reside in the home they shared until January 18, 2019 where she passed away at the age of 92 years, four months, and 27 days.
Joyce remained active during her retirement by attending First English Lutheran Church in Tyler and going out with her good friends. She always loved working in her yard and worked
hard to make sure it was free of weeds.
She will be remembered her niece, Jeanette (Bill) Bergstad and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward and her parents, John and Lena.
