June Sandberg

Caroline June Sandberg…

was born to William and Emma (Dahms) McKown on June 27, 1922 in Pipestone, Minnesota where she was raised and received her education. On April 3, 1941, she was united in marriage to Willard Sandberg in Pipestone, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they made their home in Pipestone. In 1954, they purchased their acreage northwest of Pipestone. Willard preceded her in death on June 22, 1981. After his death, she continued to reside on their acreage. When she met Doug Schmidt from Luverne, Minnesota, they built a home together on June’s acreage and lived there until the time of his illness at which time he moved in with his son until his death in November, 2015. In December, 2014, June moved to Valley Manor in Lake Benton, Minnesota; and in November, 2016, she became a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler, Minnesota where she died on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the age of 94 years, four months and 18 days.

June was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone where she was active in the UMW in her younger years. She loved gardening, baking, and sewing, especially quilting. She liked refinishing furniture and collecting antiques. She enjoyed traveling many places and spending her winter months on Doug’s property in Edinberg, Texas.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jean Trigg of Lake Benton, Minnesota; her son, Warren Sandberg and his wife Claudia of Lewes, Delaware; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Benson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren, Annette Frappier, Doraine Kiecksee, Allen Trigg, Delwin Wittrock, Dean Wittrock, Sharlyn Tiedeman, Daryl Trigg, David Trigg, Eric Sandberg, Matthew Sandberg, Brianna Hoffman and Ross Sandberg; 12 great-grandchildren, Christiana, Brett, Kayleen, Amy, LeAnn, Jessica, Jordan, Andrew, Alyna, Brooklyn, James and Eric; three great-great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Aurora, and Josephine. She is preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Joan Macklenberg; her son, Marlon Sandberg; and special friend, Doug Schmidt.
