Kent David Benson

Kent David Benson…

was born to Otis and Gertrude (Bergin) Benson on June 27 1954 in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was raised in Jasper, Minnesota where he also attended school.
After his graduation from Jasper High School in 1972, he pursued a career in
heating and refrigeration. A short time later, he moved to Colorado. On September 15, 1977, he was united in marriage to Joyce Baca in Colorado. Three children were born to this union. While living in Colorado, Kent was employed in heating and refrigeration for many years. When his health problems forced him to retire, he moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On Friday, October 20, 2016, Kent died at his home in Sioux Falls at the age of 62 years.

Kent was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed writing poetry. This past year he even published his own book of poetry. He was also a collector of baseball and football playing cards and had recently shared some of them with his nieces and nephews. He was also a lifelong Vikings and Twins fan.

He is lovingly remembered by his three children, Laura (Nick) Larsen of Longmont, Colorado, Kent Benson, Jr., of Longmont, Colorado, and Steven (Brianna) Benson of Greeley, Colorado; five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Christian, Austin, Ian and Braylon; two great-grandchildren, Aria and Jaden; his mother, Gert Benson of Jasper, Minnesota; and six siblings, Kristin (Tom) Nelson of Broomfield, Colorado, Kord (Dana) Benson of O’Neill, Nebraska, Kyle Bahn of Austin, Texas, Kelly Benson of Willmar, Minnesota, Kerri (Malcolm) Johnston of Elk Point, South Dakota, and Kolin Benson of Marshall, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his father, Otis Benson; two brothers, Kevin Benson and Kim Benson; an infant sister, Kolleen Benson; and brother-in-law, Don Stoltenberg.
