Lamoyne "Sam" F. Polzin

June 2, 1931 — November 30, 2017

LaMOYNE 'SAM' FRANKLIN POLZIN was born in Jeffers, Minnesota on June 2, 1931 to Frank and Maybelle (Kaushagen) Polzin. Sam was raised in Jeffers, where he was baptized on June 28, 1931 and confirmed on April 14, 1946. Sam graduated from Jeffers High School in 1949. He attended Waldorf Junior College. On February 12, 1953, Sam was united in marriage to June Buckley at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. Sam enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and served his country until his honorable discharge. The couple resided in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for two years and then relocated to Mankato, Minnesota where Sam continued his college education, graduating in 1957. That same year, the couple moved to Luverne, Minnesota where Sam took a teaching position at Luverne High School. Sam continued to teach until his retirement in 1987. On Thursday, November 30, 2017, Sam passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 28 days.

Sam enjoyed music and sang in the Grace Lutheran Church choir where he was a long-time member. He was a member of Modern Woodmen of America and the National Education Association. He was inducted into the Waldorf College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. Sam had a passion for woodworking and photography. He made many beautiful things, including the altar at Grace Lutheran Church. Examples of his craftsmanship can be found in many homes and businesses around town. Sam also loved to fish, and enjoyed many years of annual fishing trips to Canada with his “fishing buddies”. Sam loved spending time with his family, doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchild, and always insisted on treating family and friends to dinner at The Bluestem, his favorite restaurant.

Sam is survived by his wife, June; three children, Patti (Jerry) Jondahl of Fargo, North Dakota, Tim (Jackie) Polzin of San Tan Valley, Arizona, and Jenny of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Daniel, Lyndsay (Michael), Samantha (Paul), and TJ; one great-grandchild, Henry; two sisters, Darlene Reinitz of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Dorla Dagner of Richfield, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maybelle; sister, Elva Mae Hanson; and five brothers-in-law.
