Obituary for Larry G. Tweet
LARRY GENE TWEET was born on July 13, 1943, to Rasmus and Bertha (Shelstad) Tweet in Luverne, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm southeast of Kenneth, Minnesota. Larry was baptized and confirmed at the Kenneth Lutheran Church. He attended Kenneth Grade School and graduated from Magnolia High School in Magnolia, Minnesota in 1961. After high school, he entered the Army, achieving rank of Specialist. He served three years and was based mainly in Fort Polk, Louisiana. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Kenneth to start farming. He also had several trucking jobs and drove for Southwest Tours. Larry lived on the home place all his life until November of 2019, when he moved to the Blue Mound Towers in Luverne. On Sunday, March 1, 2020, Larry died at his home at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 18 days.
Larry was a member of Kenneth Lutheran Church until its closing. He was a dedicated member of the Hardwick American Legion, marching in every parade or event that would require the military honors. Larry served on the Vienna Township Board for over 38 years. He loved his animals especially cats and dogs. He also took care of feeding the deer and pheasants in the area. After stopping at the home place to feed his animals, he could frequently be found at the Kenneth Center having coffee and visiting friends. He also frequented the afternoon coffee group at McDonald’s in Luverne and enjoyed visiting with his neighbors at the Blue Mound Towers. Larry was easy to talk to and had many connections. He was a very caring uncle to his nieces and nephews and will definitely be missed at future family events.
Larry will be remembered by his brothers, Roger (Barb) Tweet of Luverne, and Leroy (Sue) Tweet of Kenneth; nieces and nephews, Paul, Tonya, Mark, Kayla, Arica, and Melissa; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ras and Bertha Tweet.
