Obituary for Leon Jensen

LEON GLEN JENSEN was born on November 8, 1932 to Andrew and Christine (Kjergaard) Jensen in Marshfield Township near Tyler, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. He grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Tyler High School in 1950. He farmed with his father until he enlisted in the United States Army in January 1954, being honorably discharged in December 1955. He was employed at Lincoln County Co-op Oil Company from 1955-1959. On November 16, 1957 Leon married Mavis Johnson in Hope Lutheran Church, Minneota, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with three children and 55 years of life together. The couple started farming near Tyler in 1959, where they lived and worked until they retired from the farm in 1996 and moved to Danebod Village in Tyler. Leon was night watchman for Danebod Village for nine years. In 2008, Leon became a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler. For a short time, Leon and Mavis shared a room at Sunrise Manor, until she passed away in 2012. On April 18, 2014, Leon passed away at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 10 days.

Leon was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church. He served on the Danebod Church Council and on the Lincoln County Co-op Oil Company board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and dancing. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Leon is lovingly remembered by his three children; Andrew Jensen and his wife Laura of Tyler, Michael Jensen of Mankato, Minnesota, and Peggy Sik and her husband Ty of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Gretchen and Crystal Jensen, and Nicholas and Nathan Sik; his sister, Lucile Justra and her husband Maynard of Yankton, South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; his parents, Andrew and Christine; brother and sister-in-law Melvin and Elaine Jensen; sister Thelma Kleinstein; brothers-in-law Dennis, Marion (Joe), James, and Allan Johnson; and nephews, Michael and Robert Johnson.
