LEONA MAYBELLE MCKOWN was born on November 29, 1922 to Mabel Tuller Holden and O. Edwin Holden in Pipestone, MN. After finishing school in Pipestone, Leona moved to Washington DC to work for the U.S. Civil Service Commission for several years. She returned to her hometown later with a friend, and then moved to Seattle, WA. After working there she moved back to her hometown and worked several years at the Pipestone County Courthouse. She married Edward McKown in 1949 and moved soon after to Sioux Falls, SD. The family transferred to Ft. Dodge, Iowa, later to Roswell, NM, and Albuquerque, NM. Leona then worked at the University of New Mexico Medical School for several years as administrative secretary. The family transferred again this time to Dallas, TX. Following several years they then transferred to Fort Payne, AL, and attended church in AL. They lived in Fort Payne about 10 years, and then returned to the Dallas Motorplex settling in Carrollton, TX. Leona passed away on November 10, 2015 at the Remarkable Healthcare Center in Prestonwood, Texas.

Leona enjoyed meeting many Christian friends while attending and working in the body of Christ. They raised two children, Marlys and Mark. She had wonderful opportunities to visit Israel twice. She had a great love for Israel! She was a member of Freedom Life Church, Dallas Eagle Forum, Golden Corridor Women’s clubs, several prayer groups, and Bible study groups for many years.

In her passing, she leaves a daughter, Marlys Hoffman and husband Frank; son, Mark McKown and wife Jane; two granddaughters, Wendee Zang (husband Richard and two children) and Amy Farmer. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; and a brother.

Services were held at Freedom Life Church in Carrollton in the Chapel with visitation from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM and service began at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leona’s memory to Christian Friends of Israel at
