Obituary for Lois M. Olson

LOIS MAY OLSON was born on September 3, 1934 to Siebo and Frieda (Heiden) Roemeling in Luverne, Minnesota. She received baptism on September 7, 1943 at the First Methodist Church in Bingham Lake, Minnesota. On June 27, 1948 Lois was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. She received her education in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1952. On October 24, 1954 Lois was united in marriage with Eldon “Woody” Olson. The couple made their home in Luverne where Lois worked at Tri-State for a short time. The couple was blessed with children and Lois stayed home to raise them. After the children were in high school, Lois became employed at JC Penney and worked there until the store closed. Lois was a caregiver for Woody for several years after he was diagnosed with cancer. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1988. In 2002 Lois was diagnosed with lymphoma, against which she fought a courageous battle for the next 13 years. On Friday, July 24, 2015, while at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage, Lois went to be with her Lord at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 21 days.

Lois was a member of St. John Church where she was part of the prayer chain and circle. Lois was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. She also enjoyed watching soap operas, game shows and television dramas, and playing bingo and cards.

Lois is lovingly remembered by her three children, Rhonda (John Williams) Olson of Boulder, Colorado, Darcy Carlson of Luverne, and Scott Olson of Luverne; her granddaughter Serena Williams of Denver, Colorado; sister, Sharon (Bob) Wegleitner of Billings, Montana; sister-in-law, Ruth Roemeling of Luverne; brother-in-law, Gene Olson of San Diego, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody; infant twins, Bryant and Bruce Olson; sister, Shirley Maxwell; seven brothers, Anno, Harold, Maynard, Marvin, Donald, Frank and Merle Roemeling, and six sisters-in-law Maude, Lillian, Vernice, Helen, Doris and Dorothy.
