Loren Veen

LOREN ALBERT VEEN of Holland, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the Tyler Healthcare center at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and three days. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. Loren was born on October 28, 1938 to Fred and Norma (Wittrock) Veen. He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minnesota on May 23, 1954. He attended school in Pipestone, graduating from Pipestone High School in 1956. On August 5, 1961 he was united in marriage to Ardis Catherine Meyer in Luverne, Minnesota. After their marriage he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Schwabisch Hall in Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his honorable discharge he worked at ABC Trucking and Murphy Trucking for a time. He then bought a farm east of Holland, Minnesota where he dairy farmed until 2007. He then continued to raise crops and beef cattle until he suffered a stroke in 2011, which caused him to retire from farming. Loren was able to stay at home up until the last few days of his life due to the wonderful care he received from Home Hospice.

Loren was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland, Minnesota. He enjoyed raising unique and unusual breeds of animals on his farm. Most of all he loved the time he spent with his family, and especially his granddaughter.

Loren is lovingly remembered by his two children, Kyle Veen of Holland, and Jody (Wayne) Huebert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his granddaughter, Cassie Huebert; one brother, Dale (Carol) Veen of Pipestone, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Steele, Darlene Ford, Betty Einck, and Darlene Meyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis; his parents; one sister, Betty Steenstra; brothers-in-law, Merle Einck, Ernie Meyer, Clarence Meyer, Leonard Steele, Bernard Ford, Nicholas Meyer, and Edward Meyer; and a sister-in-law, Jackie Meyer.
