Mabel Green

MABEL GREEN was born on June 2, 1919 to Theodore and Julia (Bly) Thompson in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was raised on a farm near Ruthton, Minnesota where she attended school. After her high school graduation in 1937, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended the Minnesota School of Business. Upon completion of her education, she moved to Pipestone and became employed at the Pipestone County Courthouse. On January 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to Marvin Green in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they lived on Marvin’s farm. After they retired from farming in 1985, they moved to a home in Ruthton. Marvin preceded her in death on December 10, 1997. After his death, Mabel continued to live in Ruthton until November, 2008, when she moved into the Terrace Apartments in Slayton, Minnesota. On Tuesday, September 6, 2011, Mabel became ill while she was in Ruthton. She was taken to the Tyler Healthcare Center where she died that same day at the age of 92 years, three months and four days.

Mabel was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton, Minnesota where she was active in the Peace Lutheran Church Women. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her great cooking and baking, especially her homemade pies.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Mary Ausen and her husband Norwood of Albertville, Minnesota, Margie Etrheim and her husband Ron of Elk River, Minnesota, Kathy Rice and her husband Roger of Slayton, Minnesota, Colleen Van Meter and her husband Larry of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Richard Green and his wife Terri of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, and Bob Folstad and his wife Mary of Hopkins, Minnesota, whom she helped raise and who was like her own child; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Herb Thompson of Alexandria, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three sisters, Hulda Folstad, Selma Thompson and Thelma Thompson.
