MARCUS JAY EMERY was born on March 26, 1994 in Luverne, Minnesota. He was raised by his mother, Sandi Emery and attended Luverne Public Schools. While in school, he competed on the track and field and cross-country teams, was a part of the bowling league and participated in the FFA program. Marcus enjoyed working on his grandparent’s farm. In June of 2011, Marcus enlisted into the United States National Guard. He was proud of his time with fellow service people and welcomed the comradery and teamwork it took from all. While serving in the guards, he received the Army Achievements Medal, Army Reserves Component Achievements Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon, Minnesota Good Conduct Ribbon, and Minnesota Service Ribbon and currently held the Specialist rank. Marcus graduated from Luverne High School in 2012. Following his basic training, he worked for Gary Frodermann on G & J Farms. Gary and Marcus had a very special bond and Marcus was quickly accepted into the Frodermann family. In May of 2017, Marcus began working in the plumbing assembly with fire trucks at Midwest Fire in Luverne.

Marcus enjoyed attending gun shows, playing paintball, gaming, tinkering with his trucks and golfing with his uncles and aunt. He loved spending time with his brothers and fishing with his grandpa and great-grandpa. He always appreciated a good meal and gave the honor of “best cook” to his Mom. Some of his traits that will be held dear to his family are his sense of determination, strong work ethic, his kindness and sensitivity and how he was always a good listener. To Marcus, if you were a good friend, you were family.

On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Marcus passed away at his home at the age of 26 years, 8 months and 12 days.

His spirit will continue to live in the hearts of his mom, Sandi Emery and Nick Reisch, of Luverne; brothers, Sam Emery and Rocco Reisch of Luverne; grandmother, JoAnn Emery of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and grandparents, Mark and Debbie Emery of Luverne; aunt, Tami (Kyle) Van Heerde of Sioux Falls; two uncles, Jay Dee Emery of Sioux Falls and Joe Emery of Mitchell, South Dakota; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Howard and Mary Emery, and Ralph Jensen and Jackie Losen; and great-uncle, Tom Emery.
