Margaret Tellinghuisen

June 26, 1917 — October 20, 2015

Margaret Henrietta Tellinghuisen was born June 26, 1917 at Bixby, South Dakota. She grew up in southwestern Minnesota and attended District 10 country school through the eighth grade. In later years she pursued and received her GED H.S. diploma. On October 10, 1935 she married Orris Tellinghuisen at Bryant, South Dakota. Their union was blessed with four children and 55 years of life together. After their marriage they lived in Worthington, Minnesota and in 1937 moved to the Lake Benton, Minnesota area where they farmed. Margaret was very active in the farming business and was proud, among other things, of her quality egg production, for which she received many awards. After the death of Orris in 1990, she continued to live on the farm until three years ago. For the last two years she resided at Sedona Winds Assisted Living in Sedona, Arizona where on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 Margaret died at the age of 98.

Margaret was a long-time member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society and taught Sunday School for many years when she was younger. She was a 4-H leader for many years, and was a Census Taker in southwest Minnesota for the 1950 and 1960 census. She loved music and played chord organ and drums, as well as sang, in various bands over the years. She enjoyed 20 years of spending winters in Arizona with the warm temperatures, the swimming pool, and the activities. She enjoyed dancing through which she met many wonderful people in both Minnesota and Arizona. She was an excellent seamstress who designed and sewed her own clothes, and was an active participant in Style Shows in Arizona. She enjoyed visits from her family and traveled often to visit them. She also enjoyed the trips she took with Marlene over the years.

Margaret is lovingly remembered by her children: Dennis (Florence) Tellinghuisen of Casa Grande, AZ, Marlene Tate of Sedona, AZ, Faye (Bill) Moody of Alexandria, MN, and Morrie (Sharon) Tellinghuisen of Slayton, MN; six grandchildren: Darwin (Dawn) Tellinghuisen of Rochester Hills, MI, Dawn (Todd) Bechtold of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeffrey (Gail) Moody of Chanhassen, MN, Melissa Tellinghuisen of Independence, MN, Miranda Tellinghuisen of Eagan, MN, and Michael (Andrea) Tellinghuisen of Lakeville, MN; four great-grandchildren: Danielle (Jon) Funk of Montgomery, IL, Derek Tellinghuisen of Peoria, IL, Tony Zimmerman of Sioux Falls, SD, and Annabelle Tellinghuisen of Lakeville, MN; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orris; her parents; two brothers; and special friend, Erv Nissen.

Blessed be her memory.
