Margaret Willene Erickson

MARGARET WILLENE ERICKSON was born to Clarence and Effie (Warren) Smith on April 25, 1924 on the family farm in Camden County, near Richland, Missouri. She was raised and attended country school there until her family moved to Lebanon, Missouri.

On January 11, 1946, Margaret was united in marriage to Walter Erickson in Kansas City, Missouri. Following their marriage, they farmed near Alcester, South Dakota and were members of Big Springs Baptist Church. She was employed for the Otis Radio Company in Hawarden, Iowa and Custom Coil in Alcester. Walter preceded her in death on April 16, 1984. In 1990, Margaret moved to Storybrook Apartments in Pipestone, Minnesota. In 2014, she relocated to Falls Landing Assisted Living. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, word puzzles and especially crocheting. On September 21, 2016, she became a resident of the Pipestone County Hospice House residing there until her passing on July 23, 2017, at the age 93 years, two months and 28 days. She was a courageous cancer survivor for 30 years.

She is lovingly remembered by her two children, Pamela (Gary) Van Hove of Edgerton, Minnesota, and Brent (Betty) Erickson of Centerville, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Jake) Tanana of Canton, Michigan, Chad Van Hove of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, Chastity (Barron) Nankivel of Freeman, South Dakota, Amanda (Max) Hansen of Vermillion, South Dakota, Jason (Jill) Erickson of Beresford, South Dakota; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara (Marion) Angst of Lebanon, Missouri and and special friends, Carol Pearson and Linda and Jerry Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three brothers, Curtis Smith, Willard Smith; and Kenneth Smith.
