Maria Quilantan

MARIA DEL REFUGIO QUILANTAN was born on July 3, 1945 to Pedro Salas and Mercedes Flores Salas in San Luis, Potosi, Mexico. The family moved to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico at the age of 5 years old. She became a caregiver for her family members at a very young age. Maria lived in Mexico until the age of 43 although she worked in the United States since the age of eight. She would babysit for kids to help earn a living for herself and help with food for her siblings. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Matilde Albino Quilantan in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Maria accepted Jesus Christ in 1984 and was baptized in 1988 at Iglesia Bautista in Mexico. The family moved to Laredo, Texas in 1989 and Maria continued to work as a housekeeper until she moved to Willmar, Minnesota in 1993. Willmar became her home until 2007 when she decided to make Pipestone, Minnesota her forever home until she passed. Maria battled heart complications and renal disease for a number of years and recently entered the care of the United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. She passed away there, surrounded by her family, on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the age of 77. We rejoice with her as she joined her Savior in heaven that day.

Maria loved to sing, sew, and cook. Her dream was to own a restaurant. She treasured her time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Maria has been a member of Iglesia Nueva Vida en Jesus and also Faith Community Church in Pipestone. She had a caring soul that was willed by her faith in God. Her strong faith could move mountains. She was a strong woman and a hard worker. She was a loveable, but strict parent and was always a very honest and straight-forward person. She valued and embraced self respect and had a warm heart. Some of her favorite sayings were: “To the bed and the table you only need to be called once!” and “If you don’t work, you shouldn’t eat.” She also believed that there might be people who will give you a handout, but will never beg you to receive it.

Maria is lovingly remembered by her husband, Albino Quilantan of Pipestone; children, San Juana de Jesus Quilantan (Juan David Rodriguez) of Kerkhoven, Minnesota, Rosaura Quilantan (Daniel Soto) of Laredo, Texas, Angelica Maria Quilantan (Manuel Sanchez) of Peru, Aron David Quilantan (Francisca Hernandez) of Pipestone, America Quilantan of Pipestone, Angel Quilantan (Nadia Martinez) of Pipestone and Aracely Quilantan (Luis Candelaria) of Pipestone; 28 grandchildren, Angelica, Rosalba, Juan, Mauro, Lamberto, Israel, Ivonne, Ivette, Selena, Aron, Maria, Dixie, Joy, Mateo, Ester, Itzamar, Issacc, Abraham, Jackie, Angel, Natalia, Jessy, Aracely, Lexus, America, Lalenie, and Luis, Jr.; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three siblings, Inocencia Garcia (Isidoro Martinez) of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, Guadalupe Garcia (Juan Gutierrez) of Ocampo, Mexico, and Juan Garcia of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents Mercedes Salas y Antonio Garcia; and three siblings, Ma Dolores Salas, Marcos Garcia, and Micaela Garcia.

Maria Del Refugio Quilantan nació el 3 de julio de 1945 de Pedro Salas y Mercedes Flores Salas en San Luis, Potosí, México. La familia se mudó a Nuevo Laredo, México a la edad de 5 años. Se convirtió en cuidadora de los miembros de su familia a una edad muy temprana. María vivió en México hasta los 43 años aunque trabajó en Estados Unidos desde los ocho años. Ella cuidaba niños para ayudar a ganarse la vida y ayudaba con la comida para sus hermanos. Se unió en matrimonio con el amor de su vida, Matilde Albino Quilantan en Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México. María aceptó a Jesucristo en 1984 y fue bautizada en 1988 en la Iglesia Bautista de México. La familia se mudó a Laredo, Texas en 1989 y María continuó trabajando como ama de casa hasta que se mudó a Willmar, Minnesota en 1993. Willmar se convirtió en su hogar hasta el 2007 cuando decidió moverse a Pipestone, Minnesota. Pipestone se convirtió en su hogar hasta el día que murio. Maria luchó contra complicaciones cardiacas y renales durante varios años y recientemente ingresó al United Hospital en St. Paul, Minnesota. Ella falleció allí, rodeada de su familia, el lunes 1 de agosto de 2022 a la edad de 77 años. Nos regocijamos con ella cuando se unió a su Salvador en el cielo ese día.

A María le encantaba cantar, coser y cocinar. Su sueño era tener un restaurante. Ella atesoraba el tiempo que pasaba con sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos. María ha sido miembro de la Iglesia Nueva Vida en Jesús y también de Faith Community Church en Pipestone. Ella tenía un alma cariñosa y fue conocida por su fe en Dios. Su fuerte fe podía mover montañas. Era una mujer fuerte y trabajadora. Era una madre adorable pero estricta y siempre fue una persona muy honesta y directa. Ella valoraba y abrazaba el respeto propio y tenía un corazón cálido. Algunos de sus dichos favoritos eran: “¡A la mesa y a la cama, nomas una vez se llama!” y “Si no trabajas, no comes”. También decía, habrá quien te de, pero no quien te ruegue”.

Maria es recordada con cariño por su esposo, Albino Quilantan de Pipestone; sus hijos , San Juana de Jesus Quilantan (Juan David Rodriguez) de Kerkhoven, Minnesota, Rosaura Quilantan (Daniel Soto) de Laredo, Texas, Angelica Maria Quilantan (Manuel Sanchez) de Peru, Aron David Quilantan (Francisca Hernandez) de Pipestone, America Quilantan de Pipestone, Angel Quilantan (Nadia Martinez) de Pipestone y Aracely Quilantan (Luis Candelaria) de Pipestone; 28 nietos, Angelica, Rosalba, Juan, Mauro, Lamberto, Israel, Ivonne, Ivette, Selena, Aron, Maria, Dixie, Joy, Mateo, Ester, Itzamar, Issacc, Abraham, Jackie, Angel, Natalia, Jessy, Aracely, Lexus , America, Lalenie y Luis, Jr.; 39 bisnietos; un tataranieto; tres hermanos, Inocencia Garcia (Isidoro Martinez) de Nuevo Laredo, MX, Guadalupe Garcia (Juan Gutierrez) de Ocampo, Mx y Juan Garcia de Nuevo Laredo, Mx. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres; Mercedes y Salas y Antonio Garcia, tres hermanos, Ma Dolores Salas, Marcos Garcia y Micaela Garcia. Bendita sea su memoria!
