Marian Anna Duus

Marian Anna Duus was born to Frank and Josephine (Styczynski) Biever on March 2, 1919 in Lake Benton, Minnesota. She was baptized at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lake Benton, and confirmed at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, Minnesota. She attended school through the eighth grade. Upon completion of her education, she helped her family during the depression years. In 1939, she began working in the kitchen at the hospital in Tyler, Minnesota, and then as a nurse's aide. While living and working in Tyler, she met Harold Duus. On November 24, 1945 they were united in marriage at St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Following their marriage, they farmed southwest of Tyler. In November of 1955 Harold died from complications of a stroke. The following year, Marian moved into Tyler. She continued to work at the hospital until her retirement in 1981. In 2012 she became a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler. On Wednesday, October 30, 2013 Marian died at Tyler Healthcare Center at the age of 94.

Marian was a member of St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler where she served as the church historian and kept scrapbooks for the congregation for over 35 years. She was also a 4-H leader. She enjoyed traveling and had visited Europe three times. She also enjoyed volunteering at the nursing home, embroidering, reading, and playing cards.

Marian is lovingly remembered by her sister, Eleanor Kraemer of Winona, Minnesota, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers, Lawrence, Sylvester, Alvin, Vincent, and Marvin Biever; and three sisters, Alvera Granneman, Alvina Biever, and Geraldine Massmann.
