Marilyn A. Schmidt

April 22, 1939 — June 11, 2022

MARILYN ANN SCHMIDT was born April 22, 1939 to Albert and Olga (Groth) Schmidt in Flandreau, South Dakota. She was baptized on May 14, 1939 in Ward, South Dakota and later confirmed in Rock Rapids, Iowa on April 26, 1953. She was raised in Steen, Minnesota with her Aunt Ida and Uncle Walter Tecken. Marilyn attended elementary school in Steen and later Hills High School in Hills, Minnesota where she graduated in 1957. She attended the Minnesota School of Business and graduated in April of 1958. By May of 1958 Marilyn was working for the Navy Department in the personnel office first in Washington D.C. and later in Chicago, Illinois. In 1965 she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and worked with the Defense Supply Agency in personnel. After two years she began to work for the Food and Drug Administration. In 1970, Marilyn moved back to Luverne, Minnesota and worked as a waitress and cook at the Blue Mound Inn until its closing in 2001. She then continued cooking at Luverne Sanford Hospital and formally retired from the hospital in March of 2009.

Marilyn was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne where she sang in the choir and served with the Chancel Guild, the Board of Evangelism, and was a newsletter and labels volunteer. Marilyn was an avid reader, enjoyed scrapbooking, puzzles and was a sports fan, especially of the Minnesota Twins.

She is lovingly remembered by her seven siblings, Richard Schmidt of Albany, Minnesota, Carol (Dallas) Dohlmann of Magnolia, Minnesota, Darlene Brown of Lancaster, South Carolina, Steven (Deb) Schmidt of Burnsville, Minnesota, Laurie (Delbert) Gangestad of Kenneth, Minnesota, Michael (Lori) Schmidt of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Judy Wiese (Tim Totman) of Pipestone, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olga and Albert Schmidt; step-mom, Hilda Schmidt; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Mary Schmidt; brother, Jim Schmidt; and sister, Londa Schmidt.
