MARK ANTHONY DAVIS was born on January 4, 1956 to Robert J. and Doris (Potts) Davis in Portsmouth, Virginia. He moved all over with his family because his father was in the United States Navy. Grew up in Port Smith, Virginia, Chula Vista, California, Cruise Bay, Oregon, and other placed. He attended Junior High School in Carmel, California and Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In April of 1973 Mark enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was awarded the Rifle Marksman Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal and on March 22, 1979 was honorably discharged. At this time he moved back to Council Bluffs and “bummed around a while” and did odd jobs, including working as an orderly. He worked on the railroad for 5 or so years until they terminated all of those jobs. He then attended the University of Nebraska Technical College in Curtis for Horticulture. After that time he moved to Painesville, Ohio (which is in the Cleveland area) and lived there for two years, working as an apprentice for a master stone cutter. He then moved to Omaha, Nebraska and worked for Mulhall’s Nursery before finally ending up working as a painter and leading painting crews for a number of years. His coworkers joked that he was Martha Stewart’s brother and called him Mark Stewart, because he was a perfectionist. In 2006, Mark moved to Jasper, Minnesota where he has been residing ever since. On Wednesday, June 5, 2019 he entered into the care of the Pipestone County Hospice House where he passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the age of63 years, five months, and three days.

Mark has always enjoyed gardening at home and liked to grow flowers and different fruit plants. He also collects movies. Through the years he has had a number of cats and dogs that he loved. In his own words, Mark “lived a quiet life, and never bothered anybody.”

Mark is survived by his ex-wife, Marion Davis of Jasper; his daughter, Melanie Davis of Omaha, Nebraska; his father, Robert of Gothenberg, Nebraska; one brother, James Davis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and two sisters, Melissa (Len) Brittenham and Peggy Braynan, both of Gothenberg.
