Martin S. Rosin

November 12, 1933 — June 15, 2012

MARTIN SYLVESTER ROSIN was born on November 12, 1933 to Rev. Louis and Lillie (Welkener) Rosin at the hospital in Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was raised in Boyd, Minnesota and attended country school through the eighth grade. He then attended the high school in Clarkfield. During Marty’s junior year of schooling, his father accepted a call to Easton, Minnesota. The family then moved to Easton, Minnesota in 1950 where Marty graduated from Delavan High School in Delavan, Minnesota. He then enrolled into Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota. While going to school Marty began working in the office for the Sonnek Hardware Store in Easton. On January 6, 1956 Marty was united in marriage to Greta “Betty” Lasanen at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Laurium, Michigan. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Easton. In 1958 Marty went into partnership and began a plumbing and heating business in Delavan. In 1965, Marty accepted a Refrigeration and Boiler Operator position at MID-Pack, which later became the Iowa Beef Processor’s plant, in Luverne, Minnesota. He and his family moved to Luverne and Marty continued working at IBP for 32 years. In March of 2001, Marty accepted a position at Engebretson Funeral Home. He ministered to families through his position until his health concerns caused him to retire in 2011. During this time he also worked for a short time carrying groceries at Glen’s Food Center. On Tuesday, June 12, 2012 Marty entered the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage, where on Friday, June 15, 2012 he went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 78 years, seven months and three days.

Marty was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. He received his baptism in November of 1933 at Zion Lutheran Church in Boyd and was confirmed at the church in 1948. His faith in the Lord was very important to Marty throughout his life. Over the years he served the church in many capacities, most recently serving as Elder at St. John Lutheran Church for 16 years. Marty enjoyed bowling and playing softball. In his later years, he enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed caring for his yard and watching and “talking” to the birds that visited the feeder.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Betty; four children, Scott Rosin and his wife Julie of Ankeny, Iowa, Candace Gilbertson and her husband Wynn of Soldotna, Alaska, Rodney Rosin and his wife Lisa of Hardwick, Minnesota, and Kathy Raak and her husband Clifford of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Wilbert of St. Louis, Missouri, Werner (Bettye) of Austin, Texas, Walter (Eunice) of Shawano, Wisconsin, and David (Margean) of Wells, Minnesota; and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Clara Laechelt and Norma Hartfiel; and one grandson, Colin James Rosin.
