Marvin J. Stromberg

MARVIN JAMES STROMBERG was born to Frank Olaf and Katherine (Hollandsfelt) Stromberg on February 29, 1928 in Jasper, Minnesota where he was raised and received his education. After his graduation from Jasper High School in 1946, he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific and Japan. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Jasper. In 1951, Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Lou Frahm in Luverne, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Jasper where Marvin worked in plumbing and heating at Our Own Hardware. In 1961, he became employed by Central Natural Gas in Pipestone, Minnesota. Mary Lou preceded him in death in 1960. After her death, he continued to live in Jasper. On September 13, 1964, Marvin married Lulubeth Walker. Following their marriage, they lived in Pipestone and he continued to work for the gas company. At the time of his retirement in 1986, Marvin had attained the level of district manager for Pipestone, Ihlen, Jasper, Luverne and Rock Rapids. After his retirement, he worked part-time installing gas services until 1990.

On Sunday, January 15, 2017 Marvin passed away at his home at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 15 days.

Marvin was raised in the Catholic Church but has been a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone for the past 52 years. He was also a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post #6 and VFW Post #3814 in Pipestone. Marvin and Lulubeth loved to travel and were members of the Holiday Rambler Camping Group. They enjoyed spending their winters in Texas, traveling across Florida in their motorhome, and camping. He and Lulubeth served on the Split Rock Creek State Park board in Ihlen, Minnesota for over 20 years. Marvin loved to build things. He put together a sleigh that was always in their yard at Christmas. He and his wife also made and sold wooden Christmas ornaments at many craft shows. Marvin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Marvin is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lulubeth Stromberg of Pipestone; his six children, Mark (Kathy) Walker of Storm Lake, Iowa, Mike (Joyce) Stromberg of Marinette, Wisconsin, Tom (Joan) Walker of Pipestone, Mark Stromberg of Jasper, Nancy (Jeff) Terry of Pipestone, Marshall (Patty) Stromberg of Mankato, Minnesota; brother-in-law and hunting buddy, Dr. Donald Backlund; ten grandchildren, Sarah Walker, Jacob (Kara) Terry, Samantha (Tyler) Behling, Stacy (Jon) Lane, Dan (Roxanne) Walker, Eric Stromberg, Brian (Samantha Bloemendaal) Terry, Laura Stromberg, Andrea Cusack, Katherine Gervais; three great-grandchildren, Jamison and Cohen Lane and Caroline Cusack; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou; parents; three brothers, Douglas, Donald, and Kenneth Stromberg; and a sister, Viola Gravel.
