Obituary for Marvin Kindt

MARVIN HENRY KINDT was born on November 27, 1928, to Henry and Viola (Lorenzen) Kindt in Luverne, Minnesota. He attended school here and graduated in 1946. During his childhood, he enjoyed playing baseball on a town team and being a member of the church softball team. On January 20, 1951, Marvin was united in marriage to Beverly Lauck in Luverne. That year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a medical equipment specialist stationed in Yokohama, Japan during the Korean Conflict and earned the rank of corporal. He was honorably discharged in 1953, and went on to become a member of the Oscar Iverson American Legion. They made their home on the farm near Hardwick where Marvin resided the majority of his life. After selling the farm in 1968, the couple relocated to Jasper, Minnesota and Marvin retired in 1998. On Friday, March 27, 2020, Marvin passed away at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, Minnesota at the age of 91 years and four months.

Marvin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. He frequently served his community by giving blood, and received many “gallon pins” from the Red Cross. He loved golf and took advantage of all the time he was able to participate on a league. He also spent time doing puzzles and playing cards, being a member of a pinochle club for over 65 years. Marvin truly enjoyed this group and the eight couples that it consisted of for many years. He was also an avid gardener and had an affinity for jelly donuts, pie, and ice cream. Marvin was faithful to his church, honest, and willing to help others. Spending time with his family was very important to him. He will be greatly missed.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Beverly of Jasper; children, Dennis (Rosie) Kindt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sandra (Roger) Wittrock of Savage, Minnesota, and Garry Kindt of Maple Grove, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Justin Kindt, Jason Mydland, Aaron Wittrock, Rebecca (Wittrock) Beskar, Tara Kindt, Stephen Kindt, Rachel Kindt; seven great-grandchildren, Shelby and Nadia Kindt, and Allison, MacKenzie, Danielle, Hadleigh, and Sadie Mydland; and siblings, Elaine Hamann and Marlene (Gary) Mann. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Merle Hamann.
