Marylou Brockberg

July 27, 1947 — September 26, 2019

MARY LOUISE BROCKBERG was born on July 27, 1947 to Robert Peter and Patricia (Everts) Burkard in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was raised by Clara Parks and grew up in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She attended both elementary and high school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Dell Rapids, graduating in 1965. On March 14, 1969 she was united in marriage to Richard Brockberg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. After their marriage she joined Dick as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where they have been members ever since. The couple lived on a farm at the edge of Pipestone where Dick farmed. MaryLou was a homemaker through the first years of marriage, taking care of the kids at home. Once her children were in school and high school she began working as a nursing assistant at the Hiawatha Manor in Pipestone, and later the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She also worked for various employers in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area, which is where she was currently working. She passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the age of 72 years, one month, and 29 days.

MaryLou was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she had been teaching Sunday School for 25 years. She loved to crochet and sew, making many baptism blankets and other special items. She cherished the time spent attending her grandchildren’s events and loved spending time with her family. She was a neighborly lady, always opening her door to anyone for a visit. She always said, “Please and thank you” immediately after asking you for something, because she just knew you were going to do it!

MaryLou is lovingly remembered by her husband, Richard of Pipestone; her children, David (significant other, Mary) Brockberg of Pipestone, Darla (Brian) Barber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sarah Schnell of Sioux Falls, and Steven (significant other, Raila) Brockberg of Plainview, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Brockberg, Brian L. Barber, Jeff Brockberg, Jessica Brockberg, Kaitlyn Barber, Colin Schnell, Justin Brockberg, Carissa Barber, Courtney Schnell, Dalee Sazama, and Marrich Brockberg; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Brockberg, Daniel Brockberg, and Raelynn Derry; five siblings, Nancy Nelson-Kramer of Brandon, South Dakota, Michael Burkard of Sioux Falls, Lisa (Jim) Hajek of Denver, Colorado, Karri (David) Hotchkiss of Humbolt, South Dakota, and Tracie (Dean) Lunde of Hartford, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews. MaryLou was preceded in death by her mother- and father-in-law, Paula and Walter Brockberg; her biological parents; her foster parents; foster brothers, Ace, Ken, Lyle, and Tim Parks; and sisters-in-law, Marlene and Lynn Brockberg.
