Mavis D. Herman

September 12, 1932 — December 29, 2016

MAVIS DARLENE HERMAN was born September 12, 1932 to Jake and Elizabeth (Jonker) Schoeneman on the family farm near Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was baptized at Bethel Reformed Church of rural Ellsworth, Minnesota and was also later confirmed there. Mavis moved with her family to Rock Rapids before starting school. She attended Rock Rapids High School and graduated in 1950. After graduation Mavis worked at Pettengill’s Concrete Lumber until 1952 when she began working at Lyon Rural Electric. On November 9, 1954 Mavis married Robert Herman at the Bethel Reformed Church. The couple settled in Rock Rapids. They later moved to a farm on Highway 75 and Mavis then stayed home to help Bob on the farm and raise their two daughters, Charmaine and Robin. The family moved to a farm near the state line in 1960. Bob died in May of 1976 and Mavis moved with Robin to Luverne, Minnesota and began working as a cook with the Luverne High School. She continued there for twenty years until her retirement in 1996.

On Thursday, December 29, 2016, while at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls South Dakota, Mavis went to be with her Lord at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 17 days.

She most recently attended the American Reformed Church in Luverne and had been an active member of Stateline Presbyterian Church where she was a Bible School teacher and attended circle. Mavis enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, spending time with her grandchildren, and going out to eat with her friends. She was most known for her Christmas baked goodies and party mix.

Mavis will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Charmaine Baker of Edina, Minnesota, and Robin Heeren and her husband Doug of Lead, South Dakota; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tyler, and Ethan Baker, Sierra (Steven) Beardsworth, and Chantel Heeren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Herman; parents, Jake and Elizabeth Schoeneman; four siblings, Dick Schoeneman, Grace DeBeer, Tillie Roskam, and Harvey Schoeneman; and son-in-law, Doug Baker.
