Melvin Bornhoft

Melvin Madsen Bornhoft was born October 2, 1927 to George and Agnes (Madsen) Bornhoft in Tyler, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. He graduated from Tyler High School. On April 13, 1946 Melvin married Juanita Jaspersen at Danebod Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with two children, Patty and John, and 59 years of life together. Mel was involved with concrete construction and bought the family ready-mix business in 1969, retiring in 1986. In retirement he enjoyed golf and time spent at the couple’s home on Lake Benton. He was a caregiver for his wife for many years. Juanita died in 2005. He moved to Danebod Village in 2006. Mel entered Tyler Healthcare Center on March 2, 2012 where he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 8 days.

Mel was a lifelong member of Danebod Lutheran Church, where he had served on the Church Council. In his younger years he served with the Tyler Volunteer Fire Department and the Tyler Golf Club Board. His interests included golf, fishing, bowling, card playing, joke telling, watching sports on TV, visiting, and vegetable gardening. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family.

Mel is lovingly remembered by his children, Patty Williams of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota and John Bornhoft and his wife Margie of Tyler, Minnesota; grandchildren, Christopher Williams, Elise (and Jeff) Mademann, Kirsten (and Wes) Carr, and Grethe (and Habtamu) Biyadglign; great-grandchildren, Kalleigh, Abigail, and Ramsey Carr, Leah Biyadglign, Brendan and Myles Mademann; his sister, Harriet Buhl of Tyler, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; his parents, George and Agnes; and his brother, Mike.
