Melvin Brockberg

MELVIN LOUIS BROCKBERG was born on August 24, 1925 to Frank and Louise (Arp) Brockberg at the family farm in the Elmer Township near Trosky, Minnesota. He attended country school in District 42. Melvin enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War as a corporal. He completed his high school education while in the army and received his diploma in 1950. Melvin was honorably discharged in 1951, and returned to the family farm, working as a farm laborer. On June 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Totman in the Presbyterian Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple moved to the family farm and lived and farmed there for 80 years. Melvin moved to Falls Landing in Pipestone where he had currently been residing. Melvin had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. with Midwest Honor Flight and while there he fell ill. He was admitted to Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia where he passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the age of 94 years, one month, and two days.
He was a life-long member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Trosky, where he was baptized and confirmed in his faith. Melvin served in many different offices and positions within the church. After his military service, Melvin served as an active member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post #6 for over 50 years.
Melvin is lovingly remembered by his beloved children, David Brockberg of Pipestone, Gary (Deb) Brockberg of Brookings, South Dakota, Kathryn (Mike) Hachmann of Pipestone, and William (Jody) Brockberg of Jasper, Minnesota; ; 11 grandchildren, Dawn (Stephen) Wynja, Michael (Janelle) Brockberg, Daniel Brockberg, Laura (David) Berg, Ryan (Lindsey) Brockberg, Katie Brockberg, Derek Brockberg, Amber Brockberg, Logan Brockberg, Dustin (Katrina) Hachmann, and Allan Hachmann; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Vida Johnson of Lake Benton, Minnesota; and many other loving friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; two brothers, Harvey and Ivan Brockberg; and one sister, Eunice Schlapkohl.
