Melvin G. Stuefen

MELVIN GUY STUEFEN was born on April 15, 1923 to William and Daisy (Johnson) Stuefen at the hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota. He was raised in Elkton, South Dakota where he grew up farming. Mel was well known for his people-friendly service as a bartender and was well liked by all of his customers in various places of employment including: the Tracy, Minnesota Municipal Bar, the Silver Dollar in Ghent, Minnesota, the Elkton Liquor Store, and the Brick Manor in Arco, Minnesota. He owned and operated his own business, Mel’s Place, where he and his wife Nancy were issued the first liquor license in Tyler, Minnesota in the mid 1970’s. Mel was an active business man in Tyler from 1969 to 1978. Mel passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the age of 95 years.

Mel will be missed by many and was loved by his wife of 50 years, Nancy; children, Richard Stuefen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sherri (Phil) Jessen of Tyler, Mike (Julie) Stuefen of Tripton, Iowa; step-children, Donald Engesser of Slayton, Minnesota, Dawn (Robert) Frakes of Garvin, Minnesota; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Olson; son, Ronald; infant son; parents, William and Daisy; sister, Avis; and brother, Dale “Joker.”
