Nathan Tate Westfield

NATHAN WESTFIELD was born to Darron and Sheila (Uilk) Westfield on May 6, 1998 in Luverne, Minnesota. He was raised in Pipestone, Minnesota. Two years ago he moved with his family to Trosky, Minnesota. He attended school in Pipestone and was currently a senior at Pipestone Area Schools. On July 13, 2008, he was baptized in the waters at Ihlen Split Rock Creek State Park and confirmed on May 4, 2014 at Christ the King Free Lutheran Church in Pipestone where he was a member of the church. As a young boy, he took part in Tae Kwon Do. While attending school he was active in wrestling and baseball. He participated in cross country for two years. In April, 2016, he enlisted in the Minnesota National Guards. He attended basic combat training at Fort Benning, Georgia where he graduated on September 1, 2016. He was currently employed for Pipestone Systems. On Friday, October 21, 2016, Nathan died at the age of 18 years, five months and 15 days.

Nathan loved the outdoors, hunting mule deer in Montana with his dad as well as goose hunting in this area. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. They would tease him about idolizing Bear Grylls for his television series Man Vs. Wild and Nathan’s own personal interest in applying himself as a survivor. Growing up he enjoyed being with his grandpa Merlin and helping him with his work as a handyman. He also enjoyed helping his dad, especially during the summer months. He was known by his family and friends as being charismatic, kind-hearted, friendly and outgoing.

He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Darron and Sheila Westfield of Trosky, Minnesota; his brother, Marcus; his maternal grandparents, Elroy and Elaine Uilk of Pipestone, Minnesota; his paternal grandfather, Merlin Westfield of Pipestone, Minnesota; his great-grandmother, Helen Hinrichs of Pipestone, Minnesota; and his girlfriend, Kaylin Meyer of Lake Benton, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Sandra Westfield
