Nell Fink

March 10, 1930 — September 2, 2019

PIETERNELLA "NELL" FINK was born on March 10, 1930 to Dutch immigrants, John and Geppiena (Dik) Timmer in Mound Township, Rock County, Minnesota. She attended country school there through the eighth grade and later graduated from Luverne High School. During high school and until her marriage, Nell worked at the Rock County Bank in Luverne. On February 25, 1950 she was united in marriage to Milton (Bud) Fink. She first saw him in 1946. He was wearing a deerskin jacket, leaning on a parking meter. They were married for 69 years. They bought a farm in 1957, five and a half miles west of Luverne. It was their hope that they could live there, in good health, until they were very old. That hope was realized. They lived there for 62 years. In December 2016, Bud suffered a stroke and Nell was his caregiver until June of this year when she was not strong enough to continue. On Monday, September 2, 2019, Nell passed away at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne from pancreatic cancer.

In addition to country living, Nell enjoyed playing cards, bookkeeping, reading a good mystery novel, and eating Pizza Ranch chicken. Of her death, Nell would say, “Why are you crying? I had a good life. I had everything I ever wanted.” A private family burial is planned.

Nell is survived by her husband, Bud Fink, of Luverne; two daughters, Pat (Pete) Body of Luverne and Marcia (Ira) Dahlman of McKinney, Texas; three granddaughters, Marilee Dahlman, Sarah Dahlman and Rachael (Nathanael) Auch; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Auch; one sister, Leona Frevik; and two nieces, Peggy Dubisar and Joan Frevik. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A special thank you to Bob Beyenhof who was always a good neighbor and who moved snow for Nell and Bud in their last winters at home. And to Donna Zoellner, who visited them in those last years, brought food and flowers, prayed for them and sent daily devotions. And to Mike Blank, who also visited them, prayed for them, and will officiate Nell’s burial services. There are, truly, angels walking among us.
