Nyla Jeane Schumann

December 14, 1932 — August 4, 2018

NYLA JEANE (ROCHEL) SCHUMANN was born on December 14, 1932 to Rudolph and Lillian (Hagedorn) Rochel in Pipestone, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm west of Pipestone and moved into town with her parents into a home built by her grandparents. She attended Pipestone High School, graduating in 1950. She was united in marriage to Richard Jepsen on May 4, 1952 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born. As a young mother she cashiered at IGA, and later was a travel agent and had many memorable trips. She did tourism work for the Pipestone Chamber of Commerce. She also worked as a salesperson and manager for several fashion retail businesses in Pipestone and Worthington, Minnesota. She taught ceramic classes in her home for many years and was an excellent detail painter. She was united in marriage to Marcus Schumann at First Lutheran Church in Pipestone. After his passing she continued to live at her home in Pipestone. On Saturday, August 4, 2018, Nyla passed away unexpectedly at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone at the age of 85 years, seven months, and 20 days.

Nyla was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she enjoyed helping with salad luncheons and Christmas-time preparations as part of the Ladies Circle. She was a member of the Hiawatha Club for many years and also loved to fish, craft, quilt, and put together scrapbooks. Antiquing and searching for collectable treasures was a favorite pastime.

In her spare time she loved riding around in friends’ golf carts and playing cards. She will be remembered by family and friends for making every occasion and holiday so special with attention to every little detail. She passed on her love of making lefsa and rossetts to her grandchildren. She loved making memories and taking photos, she will be so greatly missed by all!

Nyla is lovingly remembered by her children, Rhonda (William, Sr.) Beach of Marion, South Dakota, and Ricky Jepsen of Pipestone; seven grandchildren, Bill Beach, Jr., Sean Burns, Kerry Johnson, Dan Beach, Michael (Stephanie) Beach, Laci (Mike) Wichman, April Jepsen; 16 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Nicole Beach, Trayton Atwood, Shane Burns, Brody, Bailey, and Braden Beach, Hunter Beach, Tryston Kostelecky, Payton and Keygon Jepsen, Madison and Stella Wichman, Curtis Jepsen, and Markis and Nate Dettman; four great-great-grandchildren, Daven Burns, Teyha Beach, and Boston and Houston Beach.
