ORVILLE FREDERICK SEVEREID...
was born to Weir Martin and Christine ''Lizzy'' (Amdahl) Severeid on July 17, 1915 in Moody County, South Dakota. He was baptized on August 15, 1915 by Pastor Edward Hegland at Bethania Lutheran Church, Moody County, South Dakota. He was raised on the farm and went to school in Blinsman School District #9. Later he was confirmed in June, 1930 by Pastor Edward Hegland. He remained on the farm in Moody County until 1936 when he moved to Lake Wilson, Minnesota. That same year he traveled by train to the World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois. He continued to help on his parents' farm in Lake Wilson. On November 28, 1942, Orville was united in marriage to Byrdella Breummer on a cold winter day at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Slayton, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived on the Severeid family farm. Later, they moved to Herman Nissen's farm, northwest of Lake Wilson. They remained there until April, 1956 when they purchased the family farm. They continued to farm there until November, 1985 when they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. On February 13, 2010 they moved to Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone. On August 1, 2013, Orville fell and fractured his femur. On Friday, August 9, 2013, he died at the Pipestone County Medical Center at the age of 98 years and 22 days.
Orville was a member of Christ the King Free Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. While in Lake Wilson, he was a member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He enjoyed word find puzzles and reading the paper. Throughout his lifetime, he always enjoyed his Grizzly Fine Cut Regular chewing tobacco. He also loved driving around the countryside in his pickup truck.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Byrdella Severeid of Pipestone, Minnesota; three sons, Richard (Annie) Severeid of Lafayette, Colorado, Orvin (Marge) Severeid of Ennis, Montana, and Darrell (Vicki) Severeid of Pipestone, Minnesota; one daughter Leann (Gary) Vos of Pipestone, Minnesota; one brother, Vinal Severeid of Rochester, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Yvonne; seven brothers; four sisters; and one grandson, Benjamin Wayne.
