Paul Fick

June 21, 1917 — April 2, 2012

PAUL FICK was born on June 21, 1917 to Peter and Dorathea (Winter) Fick on the family farm near Olivet, South Dakota. He was baptized at this home on August 12, 1917. In 1919, the family moved to a farm near Beaver Creek, Minnesota. Paul was raised on the farm. He was confirmed on July 10, 1932 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota. He attended Pleasant View Country School through the eighth grade level. Following his education, Paul helped his family on the farm while working as a farm hand to other area farmers. On February 11, 1942 Paul was united in marriage to Meta Winter at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Boyden, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple made their home on a farm just southwest of Luverne. Their union was blessed with nine children. Paul was a steward of the land for 42 years. In 1981, he formally retired from farming and the couple moved into Luverne. Paul enjoyed driving to the farms and watching the farming operations. In June 2010, he became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. On April 2, 2012 Paul passed away peacefully at the Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 94 years, nine months and twelve days.

Paul was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne where he served in Evangelism, Lutheran Laymen’s League, an Elder, and Men’s Club. Paul enjoyed music, traveling, woodworking, clock making, player piano restoration and eating cookies. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. He cherished the time he spent with Meta, whom he referred to as the “prize of his life”, and was blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage this past February. He will be remembered for his friendship to others, his love to his family, and as a man with devout faith in his Lord and Savior.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Meta; nine children, Loren (Shirley) Fick of Luverne, Anita (Bill) Chiaramonte of Cincinnati, Ohio, Margaret (Rev. Tom) Albrecht of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Norma (Randy) Goetz of Satellite Beach, Florida, David (Darlene) Fick of Valley Springs, South Dakota, Betty (Dan) Werth of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, Ronald (Elaine) Fick of Luverne, Krista (Harlan) Kroon of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and James (Renee) Fick of Brandon, South Dakota; 27 grandchildren: Sheri Helland, Kristi Dick, Staci Minkler, Lori Fick, Marc, Michael and Greg Chiaramonte, Carrie Kuehm, Amy Bloms, Angie Albrecht, Jennifer LaFoy, Kristine Goetz, Kimberly Millar, Dawn Gordon, Dean and Nathan Fick, Brad and Paul Werth, Bethany Hoffert, Ryan Fick, Melissa Fick-Dorn, Lisa Lien, Amanda Kroon, Heather Buysse, Shane, Alyssa and Jamie Fick; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Fick of Luverne; a sister-in-law, Florence Fick of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; and other family and friends.
