Paul L. Buss

August 2, 1934 — April 28, 2020

PAUL LEWIS BUSS was born on August 2, 1934 to Dick and Sarah Jane (Nicloy) Buss on the family farm north of Steen, Minnesota. He was raised here for eight years before moving to a farm west of Ellsworth, Minnesota for the next two years. The family then moved to a farm west of Kanaranzi, Minnesota for the next eleven years. At this time, Paul completed his education through the eighth grade at District 24 country school. Following his schooling, he remained living and helping on the family farm. On November 9, 1955 Paul was united in marriage to Noma Elaine Hicks. The couple resided in the Rowena, South Dakota area for a short time before moving to their home in Ash Creek, Minnesota. Paul spent his summers working at Hanson Silo until 1986. His winters were spent helping local farmers. In 1986, Paul formally retired and went into the salvage business where he could often be found cleaning and recycling copper. Noma, his wonderful wife of 48 years, passed away in August of 2004. Paul continued to live in their home until entering Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown home in Luverne, Minnesota on November of 2018. On Tuesday, April 28th, 2020, he died peacefully in his room at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 26 days.

Paul enjoyed woodworking, fishing, embroidering, wooden lawn ornaments, and playing Farkel and other card games. He was very content with living a simple life and loved having a good conversation with anyone who had a moment to visit.

He is lovingly remembered by his six children, Howard and his wife Nancy Buss of Hardwick, Minnesota, Debra and her husband William Tiesler of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Vernon and his wife Cheryl Buss of Valley Springs, South Dakota, Ralph Buss of Ash Creek, Sharon and her husband Randy Schomacker of Luverne, and Timothy and his wife Wendy Buss of Hills, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, Noma; an infant daughter, Nancy; parents, Dick and Sarah Jane; one brother, Richard; and one sister, Nina Mae Eernisse.

In accordance with Minnesota Executive Order and CDC guidelines, a private family will be held on Friday, May 1, at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
