Obituary for Raymond A. Stueven
RAYMOND A. STUEVEN was born to John H. and Marie Alvina (Winter) Stueven on April 5, 1921 on the Stueven family farm in Pipestone County, Minnesota, where he was raised and attended country school. Upon completion of his education, he worked at various jobs until July, 1942, when he entered the United States Army Air Corp at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He was transferred to Kansas City, Missouri to attend school for airplane mechanics and also electrical school. After completing these courses, he was stationed in Alaska as an aircraft electrical mechanic. When he was discharged from the service in 1945, he returned home and went into farming with his brother Harold on the home place. On February 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Arlys Pearson. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed on the home place. In 1970, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota. While living in Pipestone, Ray worked for Brastads Association and Lange’s Manufacturing until he retired. Arlys preceded him in death on March 3, 2008. After her death, he moved to Baltic, South Dakota to his daughter’s farm home. On February, 28, 2011, he entered Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne where he died Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 5 days.
Ray was a charter member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Pipestone. He served as the church trustee for many years, and he also served as the church treasurer and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post #6 and VFW Post #3814. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, weekend camping and traveling. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.
He is lovingly remembered by his two sons, Ronald (and Dar) Stueven of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Jeffrey (and Denise) Stueven of Howards Grove, Wisconsin; one daughter, Julie (and Paul) Liester of Baltic, South Dakota; his daughter-in-law, Valerie Stueven-Morgan of Poulsbo, Washington; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; sister, Ella Quint of Valley, Nebraska; 3 half-sisters, Darlene Dalin of Pipestone, Minnesota, Lois (and Richard) Zupp of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Vera (and Tom) Olson of Milford, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlys; his son, Randall; his parents; six brothers; three sisters; and one half-brother. Blessed be his memory!
