Richard Buss

October 9, 1945 — October 14, 2022

RICHARD LEE BUSS, was born on October 9, 1945 to Tony and Edna Buss in California, but he was a lifelong resident of Rock County, Minnesota. Rick married Pat on January 26, 1974. They later had one daughter, Tricia. The family resided in Hardwick, Minnesota and attended church at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hardwick. Rick and his family later settled onto their farm near the Blue Mound State Park where he lived and worked for much of his life. He was a dedicated life-long farmer, a lifestyle that gave him great pride. Rick worked hard as a farmer, a father, and a husband. Later in life he also worked at the rest area near Adrian where he enjoyed meeting many new people. Rick also served on the township board for several years. When Rick’s health declined in 2016, he retired and moved to Edgebrook Care Center. He remained living at Edgebrook until October of 2022, when he was transferred to Sandford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On Friday, October 14, 2022, Rick passed away at Sanford at the age of 77 years and 5 days.

When not working on the farm, Rick loved to fish. Being out on water brought him a deep sense of joy and peace. He also served as a volunteer firefighter in Hardwick for a number of years. One of his favorite things to do was watch his daughter’s sporting events, especially softball. In addition, he and his wife Pat could often be seen driving around the countryside trying to determine who had the “cleanest” field. When his grandchildren came along, he enjoyed traveling to Shakopee for all their important events and milestones. They were truly his pride and joy. One of the other things Rick cherished was his dog, Alex. They spent many nights sharing the couch and “watching” television with their eyes shut snoring. They were always on guard though and were immediately awoken if you dared to try changing the channel. Rick always had a smile on his face and was generous to his friends and family.

Rick is survived by his daughter Tricia (Jason Sudenga) Aiken of Shakopee, Minnesota; grandchildren LilyAhnna and Sullivan Aiken; and a brother Jerry (Liz) Buss of Luverne, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, and his parents Tony and Edna.
