Richard Halsne

November 19, 1941 — November 14, 2018

RICHARD RAYMOND HALSNE was born the only son to Earl and Carol (Kuhlman) Halsne on November 19, 1941 in Fountain Prairie Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm near Ruthton, Minnesota and received his education through the eighth grade. On February 16, 1963 Richard married Jean Kelly. They were blessed with four children, Randy, Dale, David and Lori. Richard was a grain and livestock farmer. In addition, the farm had many other animals, including pigs, chickens, lambs, sheep and dogs. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. Over the years, he enjoyed socializing and particularly enjoyed the neighborhood hog roasts. In 1983 Richard and Jean divorced. Richard continued farming after this time with his son, Dale, into the late 1980’s. In 1989, Richard moved into Ruthton. From 1994 to 1999 he worked for Rupp Construction. Upon his retirement in 1999, Richard continued to enjoy spending time with friends, hunting, and playing cards (particularly poker). On November 14, 2005, Richard suffered a stroke. Due to his poor health he later became a resident at care facilities, including the Sunrise Manor in Tyler, Minnesota and Homestead Place Assisted Living in Lake Benton, Minnesota. On September 14, 2014 he became a resident at the Sunrise Manor where on November 14, 2018 he died peacefully at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 25 days.

Richard is survived by his children, Randy (Judy) Halsne of Joliet, Illinois, David Halsne of Holland, Minnesota, and Lori Halsne of Luverne, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Kris Halsne of Ruthton; six grandchildren, Ashley, Angela, Megan, Teresa, Brian and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Jakobi, Drayden and Julian; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Earl (October 10, 1963) and Carol (October 20, 2002); son, Dale (November 9, 2016); infant grandson, Justin Halsne.
