Richard Hudson

RICHARD JOSEPH HUDSON was born on February 14, 1923 to Pearl and Josephine (Reiter) Hudson on a farm in Palo Alto County near Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was raised there until he was nine years old when he and his family then moved to Lamberton, Minnesota in 1935. One year later they moved to Currie, Minnesota. Upon completion of country school Richard attended one year of High School in Currie. After his education he continued helping his father on the farm. On January 21, 1946 Richard was united in marriage to Lois Emelia Pommier at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie. Following their marriage the couple resided on an acreage northwest of Currie and farmed. In 1964, they purchased and operated the bowling alley and restaurant while Richard continued to farm. Two years later they sold the business and Richard continued to farm until 1975 when he sold their land to the State of Minnesota to become a State Park. He then went to work as a carpenter for Bob Ackerman and later continued working various jobs on his own while occasionally helping with his son’s, Randy, floor covering business. In fall of 2001, Richard and Lois moved to Luverne, Minnesota as a result of her ailing health. Lois passed away in June of 2002. Richard continued living and working in Luverne. On Thursday, April 6, 2017 Richard died peacefully at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 94 years, one month and 20 days.

Richard was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and a former member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie. He served as township clerk, operated the township snowplow for 30 years, and was an original member of the Lake Shetek Association. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved spending time with his friends and family.

He is lovingly remembered by his three children, Gary Hudson and his wife Wendy of Stillwater, Minnesota, Gloria Bruns of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Randy and his wife Robin of Luverne; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; special friend, Ray Dorn; good friends, Virgil Schutz and Rich Engstrom; and the liars that he drank coffee with every morning at Glen’s. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; daughter, Cindy; son-in-law, Jerry Bruns; parents, Pearl and Josephine Hudson; and two brothers, Eugene and Jim Hudson.
